Osvaldo Ardiles has told The Express that Dele Alli’s improvement at Tottenham Hotspur has surprised him.

Alli joined Tottenham from Milton Keynes Dons in February 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport at the time to be worth £5 million.

The youngster was loaned back to MK Dons for the remainder of the 2014-15 season and was drafted into the first team at Spurs in the summer of 2015.

The midfielder has been superb for Tottenham for the past two or so seasons and has established himself as a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The 21-year-old is one of the best young players in entire Europe and has taken his game to a whole new level this season.

Alli has scored 16 goals and created 42 chances in 31 Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this campaign.

Former Spurs manager Ardiles has admitted that he has been surprised by the improvement Alli has made under Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

“When he arrived at Tottenham he was a rough diamond, but Pochettino has made sure he has improved and it has surprised me how much – his improvement has been phenomenal,” Ardiles told The Express about Alli. “I hope he carries on surprising me.”

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 71 points from 32 matches, just four points behind leaders and London rivals Chelsea.
