The Tottenham Hotspur man is one of his team’s most important players.
Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles has told The Express that he’s a big fan of Dele Alli.
The 20-year-old midfielder was on the scoresheet last weekend as Tottenham edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane, with Alli equalising after Ashley Barnes’ opener.
He burst on to the scene last season, scooping PFA Young Player of the Year in the process but it has been a tough first three or four months this time around.
Alli has attracted slight criticism for failing to reach the standards he set for himself last term, but Spurs icon Ardiles is delighted with the youngster and says there’s a certain arrogance about him which he finds endearing.
“Dele Alli is a wonderful, wonderful player,” he said in The Express. “He reminds me of Glenn Hoddle quite a lot. In fact, the more I see of him, the more I think that, because he is developing.
“When he arrived, he was kind of just a ‘normal’ midfielder. Now he does things differently. He has an air of arrogance about him that I like. Glenn had it as well, so did Paul Gascoigne. I like that.
“I think he will be up there with them. It is amazing the way he is improving all the time. He is incredibly young.
“People ask too many questions of him at times. They expect too much of him and are quick to criticise – he did this or that wrong. But he is very, very young and the future is incredibly bright for him. He could be one of the best players in England.”
The England international is of course a fine talent and he will improve as the season goes, one would imagine.
