Tottenham signed three players on deadline day – and Ossie Ardiles has had his say on the business done by his former club.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles has taken to Twitter to offer his opinion on the club’s transfer deadline day business, with three players arriving on Wednesday.
Spurs went into the summer transfer window needing new signings ahead of their Champions League campaign, whilst fans wanted fresh blood in the side after Tottenham’s collapse towards the end of last season.
Pau Lopez in action for Espanyol
Manager Mauricio Pochettino ended up bringing in five new signings, and whilst Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen were both snapped up in plenty of time for the new signing, Spurs did leave it late to snap up three players.
Goalkeeper Pau Lopez has arrived on a season-long loan deal from Espanyol with a view to a permanent move, having come up through the ranks under Pochettino with Espanyol.
The Spaniard has been brought in as a third-choice goalkeeper at White Hart Lane, offering cover for Hugo Lloris – who is currently injured – and Michel Vorm, whilst potentially giving Pochettino a long-term goalkeeper to develop.
Spurs new boy Georges-Kevin Nkoudou celebrates scoring for Marseille
Winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou also completed a move to White Hart Lane, finally sealing a protracted move from Marseille which virtually took all summer to get done.
The pacy wide man, 21, hit nine goals and five assists in his only season for Marseille, and has been brought in to provide speed to the Tottenham attack, which was often missing last season.
Moussa Sissoko celebrates scoring for Newcastle United
Finally, Spurs waited until the final minutes of the transfer window to splash the big cash, as they snapped up Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko in a deal worth £30m, according to Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old may have been heavily criticised as Newcastle were relegated last season, but he showed his class with the French national team during Euro 2016, and he’ll provide pace and power in the middle of the park for Pochettino.
After an action-packed deadline day at White Hart Lane, Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles took to Twitter to give his views on the signings, suggesting that Spurs have brought in three very exciting players, admitting he was ‘very happy’ with the deadline day business.
