Tottenham Hotspur will travel to newly promoted Newcastle United on the opening weekend of the 2017/18 season, it has been announced.
The Premier League announced the fixture list this morning, with the game currently scheduled for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday August 12.
Former Tottenham player and manager believes it is a good omen for Spurs, as this was the same fixture he experienced during his spell in charge of the club back in the 90s.
Despite this two-decade old omen, it is Newcastle who will have the happier memory of the last game between the two teams.
The Toon won 5-1 in their final match of the 2015/16 season, despite having 10 men.

Tottenham will be out to get revenge but Rafa Benitez’s side will be determined not to let Newcastle’s fans down in their first fixture back in the top flight.
The tough fixture could have both teams scrambling to get their transfer business done early, as there can be no room for complacency for either side.
