Oscar Piastri was visibly frustrated after the Singapore Grand Prix, and it wasn’t just because of how his race played out.
McLaren have secured back-to-back constructors’ championships for the first time in over three decades, achieving this feat with six race weekends remaining.
Lando Norris finished on the podium for the 14th time this season, taking third place behind George Russell and Max Verstappen at Marina Bay, respectively, first and second.
Norris joined McLaren staff on the rostrum to celebrate, while Piastri dealt with some tough questions during his media duties.
The Australian star was frustrated by a first-lap incident where Norris bumped into both him and Verstappen to move from fifth to third.
Piastri asked over team radio for McLaren to consider swapping positions, but the team backed the stewards’ decision that no further action was necessary.
The decision has tightened up the drivers’ championship race, reducing Piastri’s lead to just 22 points.
Norris later explained why he did not feel he was in the wrong during their battle.
This situation has, however, led to doubts about their long-term viability as teammates. There are indications that Piastri and his management may already be looking into other opportunities within the paddock beyond 2026.
Oscar Piastri already thinking about move from McLaren to Ferrari in 2027

A new report from Swiss publication Blick has provided further insight into the Formula 1 driver market.
According to the report, both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are weighing up their options at Ferrari beyond next year.
Recently, Leclerc has been linked to Red Bull and other teams. Hamilton, on the other hand, could retire after 2026, unless he activates a contract extension.
These moves could potentially open up two seats at Ferrari, though the Singapore Grand Prix highlighted some of the issues Fred Vasseur’s team is currently dealing with.
With a valuation of £3.8bn, the team witnessed both of their drivers struggle with brake issues, which led to Fernando Alonso openly criticising Hamilton for cutting a corner on the final lap.
Blick also states that while Norris and Piastri will stay with McLaren through 2026, the Australian star has ‘already set his sights on Ferrari for 2027’.
This would require either Leclerc or Hamilton to step aside, opening up a spot at F1’s most dominant team just one year after the upcoming regulation changes take effect.
What Lewis Hamilton thinks about Oscar Piastri’s 2025 season at McLaren
If Leclerc chooses to move on from Ferrari, there could be a scenario in 2027 where Piastri and Hamilton find themselves as teammates.
Hamilton, who won his first title with McLaren back in 2008, has been through similar situations before and can relate to what the 24-year-old is experiencing.
Earlier this year, the British legend shared his thoughts on the Australian (via GPBlog) and was full of praise for him.
“I don’t know him a huge amount. We sometimes talk a little bit on the parades, but he’s always been very easy to approach, easy to speak to. He’s clearly a nice lad.
“I think the job he’s doing is fantastic. It’s mega for me to see McLaren doing so well because that’s where I started and also to see them so close. Him and Lando are two great drivers. The pressure on both of them will be unimaginable, I would say, for most people who are not experiencing it and who have not experienced it.
“We’ve seen both, and obviously, particularly Oscar, doing a great, great job weekend in, weekend out, delivering, qualifying, and everything you need to do to win a world championship.
If Hamilton and Piastri do end up together at Ferrari, they would form one of the more laid-back duos in the paddock.
It would be interesting to see who would come out on top if they were driving the same car.
