Victor Orta has told the Phil Hay Show that he still doesn’t know if Gjanni Alioski will be at Leeds United next season.

Alioski’s Leeds contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign, and there has been talk that he could leave.

Leeds have struggled to tie the left-back down, after seemingly hitting road-blocks in contract negotiations.

Orta has now revealed that he has spoken to Alioski in the last 24 hours though.

And the Spanish director of football has hinted that the talks were positive.

“I don’t know. His contract is until the 30th June,” Orta said, when asked if Alioski would stay.

“He understands our position. I understand his position.

“I think the last two days we have a good conversation face to face, this is really necessary. I ask him three things. His answer was really happy to me.

“The moment he needs to decide is about his own ideas about what he wants to be like as a player this year.”

“It’s not about Leeds, it’s about his personal intention.”

Alioski departure – a big blow?

Leeds are understood to be chasing a new left-back this summer (The Athletic), which could leave Alioski benched next term.

However, his departure would still be a blow to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Alioski is hugely popular in the Leeds dressing room, and has coped with the step up well this season.

The North Macedonian international has held down a starting place in Leeds’ team, and been a major attacking threat down the left.

If he was to depart he could be one of three important players to leave Elland Road this summer, with Gaetano Berardi’s and Pablo Hernandez’s exits already announced.
