Leeds United have wanted Rangers’ winger Ryan Kent for a minute.
Three years ago, Leeds wanted Kent – then at Liverpool – but were only willing to pay £5 million, as covered by HITC Sport.
He wound up going to Ibrox for around £7.5 million but speculation about a transfer to Elland Road continued.
In April of last year, it was reported that the West Yorkshire outfit were readying a third attempt [Glasgow Evening Times] to bring Kent back to English football from Rangers.
It never materialised but if Leeds are still keen, they can get him on the cheap this January.
The Gers are out of Europe entirely and nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
In other words, there isn’t much to look forward to if you’re a Rangers player in the second half of the campaign and with his contract expiring in 2023, he probably won’t be signing a new deal.
And unless the light Blues want to lose him for nothing, they’ll have to consider cut-price offers in January.
Marcelo Bielsa was seemingly a massive admirer of the Liverpool academy gem [The Scottish Sun], but Victor Orta will have likely signed off on the reported offers in the past, given his role is director of football.
And if Orta is as enthused by Kent as the legendary Argentine manager was then they can finally pick him up for dirt cheap this winter.
There’ll be competition of course, because it’s no secret to anyone that Kent is coming into his final six months as a Rangers player, but Leeds’ long-standing interest could stand them in good stead.
