Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel, David Ornstein has been discussing the race for Jude Bellingham’s signature.
Pretty much every elite European club is keen on Bellingham right now, and according to Ornstein, some of the chasing pack believe that Liverpool are currently leading this race.
This comes after Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg reported such last week, and it sounds as though there was real truth to those murmurs as Ornstein has now heard that other clubs do in fact believe this is the case.

Liverpool thought to be leading
Ornstein shared the state of play in the race to land the Borussia Dortmund star.
“The feeling among other clubs who are interested in Bellingham is that while Liverpool may be the early frontrunners, the situation is still open. That brings the likes of Real Madrid to the fore, Manchester City too who really like Jude Bellingham – but don’t think they’re at the front of the queue, Chelsea also love him, but where will emerge as his most likely destination is still to be decided,” Ornstein said.
Still early
Liverpool seem to be making decent headway in their quest to sign Bellingham next summer, but it’s still way to early to declare any winners or even favourites in this race.
There are so many variables at play here.
Let’s not forget, the Reds currently sit outside of the top four, the club is up for sale and their Sporting Director is about to leave – Liverpool are quite a way away from making any new signings right now.
Yes, they may be doing good groundwork on Bellingham, but none of this can be considered substantial until a bid is actually on the table.
