Leeds United youngster Oriol Rey has sealed a permanent move away from Elland Road this summer.

Oriol Rey has bid farewell to Leeds on Twitter after Real Valladolid confirmed on social media that they have signed the youngster on a three-year deal – and the news has prompted plenty of reaction amongst the Whites fans.
Rey appeared to head into this summer with an outside chance of being one of the under-23 starlets set to be given a chance by Marcelo Bielsa. He has been highly rated since arriving at Elland Road, and went into pre-season off the back of an impressive year on loan with Conquense.
But it appears that Bielsa has decided that Rey will not be in his plans moving forward as Real Valladolid have confirmed that the 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
The news may come as a surprise to some. And Rey has since taken to Twitter to send a message to the Championship side’s fans to thank them for all of their support during his two years in Yorkshire.

And in response, there have been a number of fans who have speculated that Leeds may have made a mistake in letting the versatile Spaniard leave the club this summer. He had been in the matchday squad with the first-team on a couple of occasions and caught the eye for the impressive under-23s.
Rey is able to play at centre-back and in that holding role that is so important to Bielsa’s system. And some wonder whether he should have been kept for another year in the hope that he could further demonstrate his potential.

Here is Rey’s tweet, as well as some of the responses…
