Tottenham Hotspur need to find another centre back this summer – and they appear to have zeroed in on a top target.

Eric Dier has endured a mixed season, Davinson Sanchez is wildly inconsistent, Toby Alderweireld is now 32 and Joe Rodon is still a relative rookie in the Premier League.

Finding a leader at the back has to be a focus for Spurs, and Joachim Andersen fits the bill having been outstanding for Fulham this season.

The Lyon ace is on loan at Fulham, and has been their defensive rock throughout the season, proving to be a vocal and determined leader.

Andersen won’t be staying at Fulham if they go down, and BT in Denmark recently reported that Spurs have already scheduled talks with Andersen’s representatives to discuss a deal.

That all looked perfect for Tottenham, but there could be a twist in the tale with Arsenal now believed to be interested too.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal and West Ham are now looking to sign Andersen, meaning Spurs are now at risk of missing out on the Dane.

This would really hurt Spurs. They seemingly had a head start on the competition for Andersen having scheduled talks with his agents well in advance of the summer window, making themselves clear favourites.

Now though, Jose Mourinho has gone, a director of football could join a new manager at the club this summer, and Tottenham’s transfer plans may have to take a back seat for a while.

That is now allowing Arsenal and West Ham to sneak their way into the race, and they may be able to hijack Tottenham if they’re unable to get the deal teed up for this summer.

Arsenal beat Spurs to one centre back in 2019 in William Saliba, and seeing Andersen make the same move to the red half of North London would leave Tottenham going back to the drawing board when they thought he was in the bag.
