Spurs could do with bolstering their midfield and the Borussia Monchengladbach ace, who has been compared to Paul Pogba, is reportedly valued at under £20million.

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a very fruitful 2018-19 season with a superb run to the Champions League final as well as securing a top-four place in the Premier League and challenging for the title for some of the season.

Preparations are now under way for the 2019-20 campaign, which promises to be absolutely crucial for Spurs in terms of building on what they’ve achieved in the season just gone, and with a strong squad core and a new, state-of-the-art stadium, there is much scope for progress going into the 2020s.

One area in which Tottenham could do with strengthening is their midfield and, if they happen to be on the lookout for talented young players with many years ahead of them, there is a 19-year-old currently making waves at the Under-20s World Cup, has been deemed “the most promising player of his generation” and is reportedly sought after by AC Milan.

Michael Cuisance of Borussia Monchengladbach has helped France’s U20s progress from Group E with a perfect record thanks to two goals and an assists in their three games so far (Transfermarkt), which bodes well for the youngsters to do what the seniors did in Russia last summer.

The midfielder left Nancy’s academy at 16 to join Monchengladbach and has gone from strength to strength, boasting 39 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga club, and in 2018 was awarded a new five-year contract which takes him to 2023 (Transfermarkt).

ESPN’s France expert Julien Laurens, writing about Les Bleuets’ hopes of winning the U20 World Cup in Poland, has given Cuisance a glowing assessment, saying he will “once again aim to run the show” in the knockout stages and adding that “since a very young age, he has been the most promising player of his generation.”

Going into detail, he added: “His profile is not dissimilar to Paul Pogba’s, except that he is left-footed. He can do just about everything in midfield: defend, tackle, create, score, assist, dribble, play short and long passes. He is elegant and clever, and he possesses a good engine. He is the archetype of the modern midfielder: so gifted, so driven. Les Bleuets are very strong in midfield, but Cuisance is at the heart of everything.”

Italian outlet Sportmediaset has listed Cuisance as one of 10 talented youngsters that Serie A side Milan are keeping tabs on in a bid to rebuild following a mediocre season, and claims that the player is valued at 20 million Euro (around £17.8million).

With such a glowing report backed by a so-far impressive showing at the U20s World Cup and an estimated value which is fairly reasonable – though it could very well increase should there be interest in the player following the World Cup – Tottenham could do worse than getting their scouts on Cuisance too.
