Tottenham Hotspur fans had to watch on as Mauricio Pochettino guided Paris Saint-Germain into the Champions League semi-finals.
Yes, PSG lost 1-0 at home to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, but it was enough for Pochettino’s men to go through and claim a spot in the last four.
Just two years since Pochettino had Tottenham heading towards the Champions League final, he could be going back there again with PSG.
What may really hurt Spurs though is a domino effect that may just emerge as a result of Pochettino dumping Bayern out of the competition.
Let’s explain; with Bayern now out of the Champions League, they are unlikely to put up a huge fight to keep boss Hansi Flick amid interest from the German FA.
They want Flick to replace his former mentor Joachim Loew as Germany manager, and Lothar Matthaus claims that this is likely to have been Flick’s final Champions League game in charge of Bayern.
If Bayern had continued their run in the Champions League, maybe they would have fought strongly to keep him; after all, he still has two years left on his deal.
Instead, Bayern could go in a totally different direction, and this is the part that may really hurt Daniel Levy; they want Julian Nagelsmann.

Matthaus claims that Bayern have shown an interest in luring Nagelsmann from RB Leipzig, and reports from Sport Bild last month back that claim up.
Eurosport suggest that Nagelsmann is Tottenham’s first-choice if they choose to part ways with Jose Mourinho, with Levy believed to be a huge admirer.
Spurs could now be disappointed in the race for Nagelsmann, with Bayern looking likely to make their move if Flick does return to the Germany setup.
Pochettino’s win pushes Flick closer to the exit, with Nagelsmann possibly heading to Bayern instead of Tottenham; as if it wasn’t bad enough for Spurs to see Pochettino excelling with PSG, his victory could have longer-lasting implications for Tottenham.
