Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new manager has taken a couple of hits this week.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho last week, and Daniel Levy must now look to find a replacement ahead of a big summer transfer window.

His top target was Julian Nagelsmann, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the RB Leipzig boss rejected Tottenham’s approach in favour of Bayern Munich.

Spurs then pivoted to Red Bull Salzburg boss Jesse Marsch, but Kicker claim he also rejected Spurs, instead picking – ironically – RB Leipzig as Nagelsmann’s replacement.

That means Marsch will have managed New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, meaning he is fully embedded in the Red Bull setup, and his move isn’t a huge surprise.

What may really hurt for Tottenham is that they could lose out on a striker target as well as a manager target with Marsch heading to the Bundesliga.

Transfermarkt report that Leipzig want to reinvest the cash they have landed for Nagelsmann by signing a striker, and the man they want is Red Bull Salzburg’s Patson Daka.

The Daily Mail in Daka’s native Zambia claim that he rejected a move to Spurs in January, but with agent Freddie Kanoute – a former Tottenham striker himself – admitting to Sky Austria that a summer move is likely, Tottenham had new hope.

Daka, 22, has smashed 31 goals and 10 assists in 37 games this season, and his blistering pace would give Spurs a new dimension in attack. They also need to find another striker this summer with Carlos Vinicius heading back to Benfica.

Daka ticks the boxes, but Marsch has been the one to develop him over in Austria, and he would surely fancy reuniting with Leipzig if an offer does arrive.

That leaves Spurs on the outside looking in, and Levy is probably sick of Red Bull and their clubs spoiling Tottenham’s ideas; first with a manager, and now potentially with a striker too.
