At the moment, Mohamed Salah seems quite content at Liverpool.

The Egyptian is scoring goals, the Reds are winning games, and with Jürgen Klopp at the helm, he knows he can win more trophies.

However, in our view, Salah won’t be too happy with what’s just happened at Anfield.

What’s the story?

Well, after Gini Wijnaldum left Anfield, Liverpool players held a vote regarding who should replace the Dutchman on the club’s leadership committee, as Goal covered.

It was led by James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk – the existing members of the group – and the vote saw Andy Robertson, Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold added.

In our view, we believe Salah will be disappointed to have missed out.

Why? Well, after a 1-1 draw against FC Midtjylland in December 2020, the 29-year-old told AS that he was disappointed not to be named captain.

The Times quote Salah as saying: “Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was expecting to be the captain. But it’s a manager’s decision, so I accept it.”

With Milner, Henderson and Van Dijk absent, Alexander-Arnold was given the armband in a move that infuriated the ex-Chelsea forward.

In that respect, we can’t imagine he’ll be too happy about being ignored for a place on Liverpool’s leadership committee.

Will Mohamed Salah stay at Liverpool?

Right now, the natural answer would be yes. As aforesaid, he seems happy, and Liverpool are winning games.

However, Salah’s contract ends in June 2023, and if he goes into next summer with just one year left on his deal, it will be a scary situation.

At that point, he would be free to negotiate a pre-contract with another side in the following January, ahead of a free transfer.

Hopefully, this club decision hasn’t upset Salah too much, or it will potentially make contract negotiations that little bit more difficult.
