Tottenham Hotspur now look set to miss out on the top four, and that leaves Jose Mourinho clinging onto his job.

Recent form has been poor; five wins in the last 13 games has seen Spurs fall way off the pace, and fans are calling for Mourinho to go.

Daniel Levy won’t take that decision lightly, and with a Carabao Cup final clash against Manchester City coming up, he won’t want anything to risk missing out on silverware.

Still, The Express report that Tottenham are already eyeing up Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo as a potential replacement.

That would mean working with Jorge Mendes again, but if that move would be encouraging for anyone, it would be Matt Doherty.

Doherty played a key role under Nuno at Molineux, racking up 15 goals and 15 assists in his last two seasons under the Portuguese boss.

Doherty even called Nuno ‘world class’ in 2019, and the pair embraced on the pitch after Tottenham faced Wolves in December.

The Irishman joined Spurs last summer, but has been struggling for playing time. He hasn’t played at all for Spurs since the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal a month ago.

ESPN claim that Doherty’s future is unclear under Mourinho, and he may be moved on this summer having failed to convince his new boss.

Well, the best way for him to save his Spurs career is by working under a manager he knows well, and Nuno is exactly that man.

If Nuno comes into Tottenham, don’t be surprised to see Doherty go from misfit to starter in a rapid change of fortunes.
