Celtic have been linked with a surprise move to make Club Brugge coach Rik de Mil a replacement for Ange Postecoglou.

Club Brugge coach Rik de Mil is thought to be on Celtic’s radar as they consider appointing a new manager.

Football Scotland surprised many over the weekend by claiming that Celtic have been keeping tabs on De Mil’s progress.

That report claims that De Mil is a highly rated coach with a ‘top coaching career ahead of him’.

Who is Celtic-linked Rik de Mil?

De Mil was a goalkeeper in his playing days before turning to management with Oostkamp having retired due to knee problems.

Details on De Mil’s time at Oostkamp are hard to come by but Club Brugge were suitably impressed.

De Mil was handed a role in the Club Brugge youth setup, overseeing their Club NXT department.

The 41-year-old started making big strides and was promoted to assistant manager under Carl Hoefkens.

De Mil stayed on board even when Hoefkens was sacked, and actually saw out the season as interim manager following Scott Parker’s exit.

Club Brugge have now appointed former Celtic boss Ronny Deila as their new manager.

That has brought De Mil’s future into question but Het Laatste Nieuws claim that Deila has decided he wants to keep De Mil.

No official decision has emerged just yet with De Mil potentially still on the Celtic radar.

Rik de Mil would be shock appointment for Celtic

Celtic making a left-field appointment almost wouldn’t be a surprise.

The Bhoys stunned many people by appointing Ange Postecoglou in 2021, and that move turned out to be a masterstroke.

Celtic may be keeping tabs on De Mil for the future but an appointment right now would be a stunner.

De Mil did win six of his 12 games in charge of Club Brugge but catapulting him into the Celtic hot seat right now would be too big of a risk.

Maybe Celtic even fancy De Mil to join their coaching staff under a new manager, believing he has a bright future at Parkhead.

That seems more likely than appointing him as manager, with the Bhoys maybe looking for somebody a little more experienced.
