Aston Villa boss Dean Smith previously worked with McEachran at Brentford.
Josh McEachran, a player reportedly sought after by Aston Villa and who has previously worked with Dean Smith, appears to be available once again.
The 26-year-old, a free agent having been released by Brentford at the end of last season, had been training with Sheffield Wednesday this summer with a view to potentially signing.
However, in the wake of Steve Bruce’s switch from Hillsborough to Newcastle United, caretaker boss Lee Bullen confirmed that McEachran would no longer be training with the Owls.
“I spoke to Josh the other day and I told him that with our managerial situation that it was better for him to look at other avenues with regards to going on trial elsewhere,” Bullen told The Star.
According to The Sun, Premier League newboys Villa were interested in signing McEachran this summer, Smith reportedly wanting to work with the midfielder again due to his ability in carving defences open with his passing skills.
With the former Chelsea ace now free to look at other options, theoretically Smith could pursue him once again, and even though Villa have bolstered their ranks hugely this summer, he would be an inexpensive back-up or cup competition player who knows exactly what his manager demands.
Even though, at face value, McEachran was rejected by a Championship club, that seems more to do with the upheaval at Wednesday rather than his skills and talents, and given he once rejected Real Madrid as a youth in order to try and make a name for himself at Chelsea (The Telegraph), it shows that not only is he talented but also committed to his goals.
