Borussia Monchengladbach star Yann Sommer will speak with the Bundesliga club over his future very soon. Tottenham Hotspur are one team interested in the goalkeeper’s transfer.
Sommer has now returned to Borussia-Park to prepare for the German top-flight resuming in January following the World Cup. He helped Switzerland reach the Round of 16 at Qatar 2022. The 34-year-old started three of Nati’s ties, including their 6-1 thrashing by Portugal.

He has been Switzerland’s number one since 2014 and Borussia Monchengladbach’s first-choice shot-stopper since joining from FC Basel in 2014. But the 80-cap ace is set to be out of contract in North Rhine-Westphalia next year. His current terms will expire on June 30.

Sommer to speak with Borussia Monchengladbach amid interest from Tottenham
Sommer has now confirmed that talks with Die Fohlen over his future in Monchengladbach were underway before the World Cup. The two parties will now resume discussions in the near future. But his contractual situation has caught the eye of some clubs around Europe.
Tottenham have begun exploring their interest in Sommer and whether or not he is aiming to leave Borussia Monchengladbach, per Dean Jones. But Sky Germany also reports Bayern Munich have the Swiss on their radar after losing Manuel Neuer for the rest of the season.

Sommer could replace Neuer at Bayern Munich if his talks precede a transfer
Bayern Munich will not have Neuer available when the Bundesliga resumes on January 20. He required surgery after fracturing his right leg whilst skiing after Germany’s horrendous World Cup. Now, FCB chiefs are studying a deal to sign Sommer during the January market.
Sommer does not want to let his uncertain future at Borussia-Park drag on for much more, either. So, he now hopes to pick up talks with Die Fohlen swiftly after returning to training.
“I had a couple of quiet days with the family in Switzerland, was able to process the World Cup and am pleased that we are now getting going again,” he told Die Fohlen’s website.

“With regards to my contract situation and my future, there were already open conversations with the club before the World Cup. We will resume these in the coming days as agreed.”
Borussia Monchengladbach do not resume their Bundesliga campaign until January 22 at home to Bayer Leverkusen. So, Tottenham and Bayern Munich have plenty of time to see Die Fohlen sign a replacement for Sommer should their talks lead to a transfer this winter.
