The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has struggled to perform consistently while on loan at Aston Villa.
Josh Onomah has long been regarded as a potential future star at Tottenham Hotspur but the 20-year-old now needs to step up and demonstrate what he is capable of.
The midfielder is spending the season on loan at Aston Villa, for whom he has scored four times and provided one assist in the Championship.
However, perhaps as is to be expected for a young player gaining his first significant taste of senior football, Onomah’s performance levels have fluctuated somewhat during the season so far.
Onomah is impressive technically but there have been occasions this campaign when his overall impact on games has been negligible and he can struggle when closed down by senior, physically stronger opponents.
The prospect has made 32 senior appearances for Tottenham so far but many of those outings have come as a substitute and he faces a major battle to convince Mauricio Pochettino that he is capable of making the breakthrough.
In order to be given a significant opportunity to impress in the Tottenham first-team next season, Onomah must start to perform more consistently for Villa and demonstrate that he is ready both tactically and physically to cope in the Premier League.
