Dean Smith shared that ‘it can be done’ for Aston Villa to beat Manchester City after Leeds United’s 2-1 win on Saturday with ‘only two shots on goal’, as he told the club’s official Twitter account.
Over the weekend, ten-man Leeds produced a spirited performance at the Etihad to record all three points against the soon-to-be champions despite Liam Cooper’s sending off before the break.
Both Leeds and Villa were involved in late goals, with Stuart Dallas’ winner sealing all three points in Manchester, but those in Claret & Blue suffering a stoppage-time defeat on Merseyside.
Smith understands the difficult task facing Villa against Man City, as he made reference to Leeds’ win.
“Yes, we have to (take positives) going forward,” said Smith. “They don’t come any tougher than the next game, which is Manchester City.
“We know this (Liverpool) would be a tough game. They were determined for the revenge of the 7-2, I suppose. But also to turn the record around here at Anfield.
“I believe Leeds have gone their and beaten them 2-1 with only two shots on goal, so it can be done. It just shows you the crazy world of football. But we have great belief in the team.”

It will be interesting to see how Smith sets Villa up against Manchester City because the current system isn’t working.
Leeds lost Patrick Bamford in the first half and were down to ten men, so it’s perhaps not a blueprint to work on.
But bringing in Keinan Davis should be looked at because he has been underused by Villa this term.
