Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Virgil van Dijk has been speaking about Curtis Jones after his remarkable start to the season.
Jones has become something of a key player for the Reds this term, he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet these days and he’s shown he can compete with the very best teams in the world, starring in the Champions League and against Manchester City.
Fans have been blown away by Jones’ showings, but it’s not just supporters who have taken notice.
Indeed, Jones has also impressed one of his senior teammates with Virgil van Dijk reserving special praise for him.
What’s been said?
Van Dijk spoke about Jones.
“A lot,” van Dijk responded when asked how much Jones had impressed him.
“Unfortunately, Harvey got injured like everyone knows, of course, and was doing so well.
“It was difficult probably for Curtis to see that a little bit because obviously he wanted to play, but saw Harvey doing so well. Now he had to take his chance.
“He’s still young, he’s still learning, he has a great mentality. He has to keep that going. It’s only the start for him and he has to keep showing it.
“The most difficult part of being a football player is being consistent, so that’s going to be a big challenge for him. But so far, so good.”

Scary prospect
Van Dijk says this is just the beginning for Jones, and that’s a very scary prospect.
The 20-year-old still has a number of years of development ahead of him, but to be honest, he looks like the finished article already.
He’s an incredibly intelligent player with brilliant technical ability and the idea of the midfielder improving even further is simply frightening.
We could be looking at one of the best midfielders in England in a few years’ time if he continues to improve.
