Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (2:18pm, November 7, 2020) that Willian is not playing well for Arsenal at the moment.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, said that Willian has not yet shown the form he had for Chelsea last season.
The Brazil international, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, joined the Gunners in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer after leaving London and Premier League rivals Chelsea at the end of last season.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (2:18pm, November 7, 2020): “You know the only problem at the moment for me? It’s Willian.
“I just don’t think he has got started yet. I don’t think he has got started. He just hasn’t got that spark what he had at Chelsea. He was Chelsea’s best player. He was outstanding last season for Chelsea.”
Staying optimistic
Willian recently had an injury and obviously that has affected him at Arsenal somewhat, but it is clear that the attacking player needs to improve and do better.
The 32-year-old joined the Gunners in mid-August and did not have a proper full pre-season.
It is probably taking time for Willian to develop an understanding with his teammates and getting used to manager Mikel Arteta’s system.
The Brazil international is a very good attacking player who was a success during his time at Chelsea, and he will eventually come good for the Gunners.
According to WhoScored, Willian has played 452 minutes in the Premier League and 91 minutes in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.
