Money is the reason behind Aleksander Buksa’s impending departure from Wisla Krakow, Polish Football Federation president Zbigniew Boniek says of the reported Wolverhampton Wanderers target.
After months of uncertainty, Wisla supporters have finally been given a straight answer about the future of a striker some have labelled the ‘new Robert Lewandowski’.
And it wasn’t good news.
Tomasz Jazdzynski, chairman of the club’s supervisory board, told Interia last week that Buksa will leave on a free transfer in July after the Ekstraklasa outfit failed to tie him down to a new contract.
That wasn’t for a lack of trying but, following weeks of endless speculation, it always felt unlikely this story would have a happy ending.
Buksa’s older brother, New England Revolution forward Adam, admitted he is “not surprised” to see the teenager prepare for a move away from Poland’s second-largest city.
Former Juventus and Roma star Boniek, however, hoped to see one of the country’s brightest young talents stay put and hone his talents before departing for a major European league later in his career.

“This case of young Buksa hurts. There is no concern for the ball, to play, goals or pleasure. There is only money in the background,” Boniek said, in quotes reported by Sportowe Fakty.
SW believes Wolves are at the front of the queue for Buksa’s signature.
The teenager is represented by super-agent Pini Zahavi, who is understood to have an excellent working relationship with a certain Jorge Mendes.
