Gary Neville has claimed that ‘only Liverpool’s owners’ are popular with their fanbase and don’t have ‘any moral’ issues’ compared with the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal, as he told Sky Sports.
The Sky pundit was making reference to the issues at Chelsea and the recent government sanctions on Roman Abramovich.
Added with that, prior to Newcastle’s takeover from a Saudi-led group, there was also talk around whether it’s right for a state to own an English football club given their human rights issues.
But, there will be others who think that those at the top of the UK Government are being hypocritical given their relationship with Saudi Arabia.
Nonetheless, this is what Neville had to say about those sitting top of the tree at the likes of Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal.
“If you look at the top six clubs in this country,” said Neville. “It’s only probably Liverpool’s owners, at this moment in time, that are popular with the fanbase and they haven’t got any moral issues.
“The other five clubs. Manchester United aren’t happy with their owners. Arsenal aren’t happy with their owners. Tottenham aren’t happy also. Man City and Chelsea have got massive moral issues with their owners.”

Whilst things are going right for Arsenal, at this moment in time, for most parts, Stan Kroenke has never been popular with the fans.
As for Spurs, whilst Daniel Levy is the one in the spotlight, it’s the unheard of Joe Lewis, who owns the club.
One thing is for sure, Tottenham fans would want the likes of Levy and Lewis out of the door given the club’s recent stangnation.
As for Liverpool, it’s FSG who are running their train and it has seen them go through a very successful period in recent years.
But, there is a section of the Anfield support that don’t see eye-to-eye with the powers that be at their club, especially given the drama around the recent attempt to enter the European Super League, so Neville’s argument isn’t entirely true.
