Former footballer turned boxer Curtis Woodhouse stated on Twitter ‘you can only laugh’ at Dwight Yorke applying for the Aston Villa job.
The former treble-winning striker told Sky Sports that he applied for the Aston Villa’s job but received no response from the club’s owner, Wes Edens.
Woodhouse, who played for the likes of Sheffield United and Birmingham, before trading blows in the ring, was left baffled by Yorke’s admission.
The issue here is that this isn’t the first time Yorke has applied for the Villa job.
Yorke may have scored a bundle of goals in the colours of the Claret and Blue during his playing days, but he isn’t a Villa legend.
What’s even worse is that he has zero managerial experience, and since the previous times he has applied, he still has a blank CV.
Just because the 50-year-old was a thunderous and deadly striker during his playing days, it doesn’t automatically mean that he will get a job as huge as Villa’s.
Thankfully for the Villa faithful, it’s Steven Gerrard who will take to the dugout, after he helped Rangers win the Scottish Premiership title last season and was appointed their new manager this week.
The legendary midfielder replaces Dean Smith in the dugout, who was sacked days after their 1-0 defeat at Southampton.
It was Villa’s fifth Premier League defeat on the bounce, which leaves them hovering above the relegation zone.
The Midlands side need a lift and Gerrard’s arrival has certainly sent a positive buzz around B6.
