What a performance by Kieran Tierney for Arsenal on Saturday night.
The Gunners edged out Newcastle United 2-0 after extra time to move into the fourth round of the FA Cup last night.
Emile Smith Rowe, a second-half substitute, opened the scoring after the game ended 0-0 in regulation and was ultimately given the Man of the Match award for his display against the Magpies.
But Tierney was arguably Arsenal’s best player throughout the two hours in North London.
On another night, the tireless Scot would have finished the game with at least a hat-trick of assists but the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reiss Nelson spurned some glorious goalscoring chances after brilliant work from the former Celtic star – a £25 million signing in 2019 – down the left-hand side.
Tierney did get his assist eventually, pulling back for Aubameyang toward the very end of the game.
And Danny Murphy, speaking live on BBC 1 during the game, was blown away by the 23-year-old, claiming that he’s only going to go from strength to strength for the Emirates Stadium side.
He said: “That’s the first time we have seen Kieran Tierney get down that left-hand side. Nicolas Pepe was there. waiting and he probably could’ve given Reiss Nelson a shout. Tierney has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season only going to get better.”
