The AC Milan striker moved from Pescara in the summer and was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
Lapadula
In the summer one key area that Tottenham Hotspur needed to address was in the striking department.
Harry Kane had been under too much pressure to get all the goals for Spurs in recent times, so a relief striking option was needed.
Eventually the club settled on Vincent Janssen, the Dutchman who had been scoring goals for fun in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar.
But he was not the only option. One year ago they were being linked with the £6 million pursuit of Pescara’s mercurial talent Gianluca Lapadula, as reported by the Mirror.
So, would he have been a better option?
Lapadula did make a move this summer. He headed to the San Siro, joining AC Milan.
Janssen has struggled for goals at Spurs, only scoring once from open play in the Premier League. Lapadula, has not fared much better at Milan.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen in action
The 27-year-old has five goals in 22 appearances for the Rossoneri, spending most of his campaign coming from the bench for his new team.
Would he have fared better under Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane? Perhaps, but it is hard to say he would have been a better option than Janssen.
