This time last year, Leeds United would only have dreamed of being a mid-table Premier League club, but here we are in November 2020, and that dream has become a reality.

In the Autumn of 2019, Leeds were eyeing up a spot in the Premier League, but they also did a lot of work on securing the future of some of their most important players with the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Kalvin Phillips signing new deals.

However, another player who signed a new deal one year ago needs a little more attention from Marcelo Bielsa, and that man is Leif Davis.

The left-footer is undoubtedly one of the most talented young players in United’s squad with Kalvin Phillips waxing-lyrical about him earlier this month, perfectly highlighting how talented he is.

“One of the players we haven’t seen much of yet, but we will get to see is, in the future definitely, Leif Davis.” Phillips said on the Leeds That podcast (via LeedsLive).

“He’s that good of a player. If he just settled down a little bit and screwed his head on a little bit he’d be up there as one of the best left-backs, left midfielders, centre-halves we’ve got.”

Add into this the fact that Davis has previously been compared to Gareth Bale, and it seems as though United have a real player on their hands.

It seemed as though the Whites were willing to make a real commitment to Davis a year ago when they gave him a new three-and-a-half-year deal, but he’s still not getting enough opportunities.

Phillips says that he has the potential to be one of the best centre-halves or left-midfielders at the club, but despite there being selection issues in both those positions, he’s only played 13 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper have had their injury issues, while Jack Harrison was ineligible to play against Man City earlier this season, but Davis still hasn’t been handed a start.

The Leeds ace turns 21 next month, so he’s getting to that phase where he’ll want to be playing more often, and one year on from Leeds making a commitment to Davis, they need to start giving him more of a run-out.
