Tottenham Hotspur youngster Aaron Skinner is on trial at Sunderland and featured against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.
Since the start of last summer, the Black Cats have made it their mission to make Wearside a home to talented youngsters in need of a fresh start.
The likes of Morgan Feeney, Vinnie Steels and Sam Wilding joined on free transfers from Everton, Burnley and West Brom respectively.
If Skinner makes a positive impression, he could be the latest newcomer to join Elliot Dickman’s U23 squad.
The Salford-born defender signed a professional contract with Tottenham in May 2020 but is now in line for a move to the North East after struggling to kick on in the capital.
Skinner, a centre-half by trade, featured at right-back as Sunderland kept a clean sheet during Monday’s 0-0 draw with Wolves.

Although he wasn’t the only trialist on show.
Nathan Newall, a 19-year-old contracted to non-league outfit Guisely, started at left-back.
Former Manchester United youngster Danny Greenfield is also under consideration by Sunderland, after catching the eye down the road at Gateshead.
Josh Hawkes (below) also made the switch from Gateshead to Wearside recently.
Alfie Cerulli, meanwhile, joined Sunderland on trial in December and has featured regularly for Dickman’s U23 side ever since. It remains uncertain, at this stage, whether he has been rewarded with a full-time contract at the Academy of Light.
