Cameron Young is making a late push to earn a spot on the US Ryder Cup team.

Young picked up his first PGA Tour win at the Wyndham Championship two weeks ago, and he is now 14th in the standings for a spot at the Ryder Cup.

There is a growing sense that Bradley might pick him for the match against Europe at Bethpage Black, and a victory at the BMW Championship would almost certainly lock in his spot.

Young’s current form and impressive length off the tee make a strong case for his value to Bradley’s team.

What stood out even more was that Young had already set his sights on making the Ryder Cup team before play even began at Wyndham.

And there is no doubt Bradley will have taken notice of how convincingly Young handled business at Sedgefield Country Club.

Cameron Young is eager to play in the Ryder Cup, especially since it is being held in his home state of New York.

The timing has worked out well for him. His game has come together just as the selection process heats up.

When questioned on SIRIUSXM PGA TOUR Radio, Young explained why Bradley should select him for the team.

The one-time PGA Tour winner said: “I think that my history at that golf course, albeit not on the PGA Tour, is a good point.”

“Being from the area I think I would draw a good bit of support, and like you said, my current form would be a strong point. I was way down the FedEx Cup list. In May, I was way down in the 80s, and I’ve played some really, really good golf since then to get myself to where I’m at today.

“If you look at a bunch of metrics outside of the points list, I think the points list happens to be my kind of least strong point unfortunately.

“I think there are a lot of other things that go in my favour including current form. You know, I have to take advantage of that and keep playing good golf. That will eventually show up in the points, and this week is a nice opportunity to do that.”

Why Bethpage Black fits Cameron Young’s game

Back in 2017, Young made history as the first amateur to win the New York State Open, doing it at just 20 years old.

During that run, he set a course record at Bethpage Black with a round of 64. That mark stood until Brooks Koepka broke it two years later during his PGA Championship victory.

Bethpage Black seems tailor-made for Young’s strengths.

The course is around 7,500 yards and plays as a par-72 for amateurs, but when it hosts majors, it is set up as a par-70.

That kind of length puts a premium on distance, and Young’s power off the tee could give the US Ryder Cup team an edge this September.

He averages just under 313 yards per drive, placing him inside the top 25 on Tour. And he ranks even higher in club-head speed (13th) and ball speed (15th), showing just how much force he can generate.
