Luis Suarez labelled Atletico Madrid as a ‘big team’ on Instagram after his side knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The former Liverpool man wasn’t able to get out on the pitch during the game, but his teammates, not only knocked Man United out, but left Old Trafford with a 1-0 second-leg victory.
It was a typical Diego Simeone type of performance, with his players defending deep, going down at every opportunity and winding up the opposition at every chance that they could.
For Man United fans, it would have been infuriating to watch, but the likes of Atletico, and even Liverpool fans, would have loved the scenes that were unfolding in Manchester yesterday.
Nonetheless, this is the message Suarez posted on his Instagram straight after his side progressed through to the quarters.
“Let’s go,” said Suarez. “Big team. On to the quarters.”
Both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid now have their names in the hat for the quarter-finals.
The Reds saw off Simeone’s men during the group stages of the Champions League when the duo were involved in two drama-filled and action-packed games.
Jurgen Klopp has already added a sixth European Cup to the Merseyside club’s cabinet and they will be pushing for more.
Liverpool have also won the League Cup this season and the supporters are craving for the team to add multiple trophies to their cabinet this term because they have every chance.
Whilst Liverpool fans would have enjoyed what Atletico were doing at Old Trafford last night, they know exactly what it feels like because they have been on the end of it and still could be again if both teams are pitted together ahead of Friday’s Champions League draw.
