Former Leeds academy product, Romario Vieira, has hit out at Gary Neville on his Instagram story for not having the same ‘energy’ towards racism than he has shown against the European Super League.
During the last 48 hours, the Manchester United legend has been at the heart of trying to stop 12 teams, including six English sides, from pushing forward with a breakaway league.
And whilst the Premier League’s so-called ‘top six’ felt they were at the starting line on Sunday, well by Tuesday evening, they were releasing statements after statements informing their supporters they will no longer take part in their controversial plans.
And Neville was one of the key individuals in the game who was pretty vocal about the idea, but it didn’t sit well with former Leeds player, Vieira, who posted this message on his Instagram story:
“He’s an investor himself trying to make something out of a club,” wrote Vieira. “He didn’t have this energy towards racism.
“For me, he’s only feeling this way towards the super league because he’s not making as much as the other owners/investors.
“I’ll say it again. (I) am not against this Super League thing. But the way these ‘pundits’ and the news reporting it. And the efforts they (are) making to cancel it or punish the six teams involved.
“I would like to see the same energy towards racism. It’s sad because there are players with bigger platforms but they aren’t going (to) say (anything) because they (are) scared and that’s a shame. Have a good day.”
Nothing but the truth from the former Leeds man because, when pockets are getting damaged, then people are quick to react.
Since the Sunday announcement, Prince William, Boris Johnson and footballing authorities around the world have come together and spoke against the Super League.
Yet that cannot be done to stop racism, like this Super League has been stopped before the engine can be warmed up.
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, was in Parliament less than 24 hours after Sunday’s announcement and informing the football authorities that they better stop this Super League, else the Government will have to intervene and do it themselves.
Once again, where is that type of talk when it comes to racism? Sky couldn’t stop talking about the issue like they weren’t part of a breakaway of their own when ‘football began’ in 1992.
Hypocrites on all side and everyone trying to save their pockets from burning, but that same burning anger cannot be felt to stop racism.
