Newcastle United are on the verge of promotion and the signing of one of their star performers this season would certainly improve the Magpies.

Rafael Benitez looks set to guide Newcastle to promotion at the first time of asking following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Sunderland are moving in the opposite direction and barring an ultimate turnaround in results and fortunes, their place in the Championship looks all but confirmed for next season. If the Black Cats are relegated then Benitez should consider a move for one of their prized assets.
Jordan Pickford has been in impressive form for Sunderland this season, despite their position at the foot of the Premier League table.
He signed a five-year deal with the Black Cats in January last year but it is unlikely that the shot stopper will be looking to play his football in the Championship next season.
A move to St. James’ Park would not go down well with Sunderland fans, especially as Pickford is a local lad who has been with the club since the age of eight.
Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford
The 23-year-old will not be short of potential suitors if he is unable to help his side avoid relegation and if he is to continue his development then he will need to playing in the Premier League next season. Pickford earned his first full international call up for England last month.
Newcastle will be looking strengthen their goalkeeping department as the question remains whether current first choice Karl Darlow is good enough to warrant a starting role in the Premier League.
Despite the controversy the move would bring, the potential signing of Pickford would prove to be a wise investment and should be considered by Benitez as he attempts to turn Newcastle into a serious proposition in England’s top tier once again.
Sunderland supporters will be hoping Pickford stays to help them back up if they go down, and if he leaves, goes anywhere but Tyneside.
