Chelsea striker Michy Batshuati almost became a Tottenham Hotspur player.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane stunned the Premier League with a seven goal flourish in his final two matches of the season.

The England international clinched the Golden Boot for the second season in a row, netting 29 goals in 30 matches.

His record was second to none in terms of total goals, but when it came to minutes per goal… there was one player with a superior record.

Step forward Chelsea’s title hero Michy Batshuayi.

Signed for £33 million last summer, Chelsea remarkably handed him just one start, and 19 substitute appearances.

A late blitz in the last three games of the season saw him score four goals, including the one which clinched the title for the Blues, a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Kane’s minutes per goal ratio was the best in the division, even better than the anomaly which was Josh Harrop’s one goal performance for Manchester United.

Batshuayi’s rate of 47.8 minutes per goal though marks him out well ahead of the rest, and suggests Chelsea erred by not playing him more this past season.

Few could argue with the results, with the Blues ending the season as Premier League champions.

Instead the team with regret should be Tottenham, for not pushing through their interest last summer in the striker, despite The Mail claiming last summer they were confident of signing the Belgian.
