Brendan Rodgers has enhanced his popularity among Liverpool supporters after publicly criticising Paul Tierney on Boxing Day.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp slammed the referee for his performance in the Reds’ 2-2 draw away to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Premier League official failed to send off Harry Kane for a lunge on Andy Robertson and also denied the visitors a strong penalty claim.
Tierney was on VAR duty yesterday as Rodgers’s Leicester City outfit lost 6-3 to Manchester City.
Speaking afterwards, Rodgers said it was ‘incredible‘ that Tierney awarded Pep Guardiola’s side an early penalty, referencing the official’s questionable performance in North London last week.
Here’s how Liverpool supporters reacted to their former manager’s comments:
Redemption
Interestingly, Rodgers takes on his old side at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.
Liverpool are coming to town and another defeat would pile more pressure on the former Celtic manager.
The Foxes have won only one of their last six games across all competitions – a 4-0 victory over Newcastle.
And after losing to the Reds in a League Cup clash at Anfield in midweek, surrendering a two-goal lead, the Northern Irishman will be desperate to make amends tomorrow night.
It’s a real shot at redemption for Rodgers but, having said that, Liverpool have been on fire lately and emerging from the game without a defeat could be very difficult for City.
