Rio Ferdinand hailed reported Arsenal target John Stones for being ‘one of the most consistent performers’ for Manchester City recently, as he told his official YouTube channel.

In recent seasons, Stones has found life tough at the Etihad whereby he has lost his place in the starting XI and then his name has been touted to the likes of Arsenal.

EuroSport did recently claim that Arsenal are still keen to speak to the ball-playing defender about moving to the Emirates Stadium next month.

Whilst those rumours do the rounds, Stones is changing his fortunes around at Manchester City and Ferdinand applauded him for picking himself up and proving his worth once more.

“I think Stones has perhaps been one of their most consistent performers of the last few weeks,” said Ferdinand.

“He’s been a big come back for them. Good to see that. Someone who has been on his knees really for the last couple of years. At the butt of a lot of jokes. Made a lot of mistakes. Injuries.

“But he has shown great character coming back into that team.”

Stones has worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta before, so it’s understandable where such a link would come from.

But Arsenal already have enough centre-back’s even if most of them aren’t good enough and the last thing they need is another one rocking up to the Emirates Stadium.

Given Stones’ change in form, it would be a surprise to see Pep Guardiola allow his player to leave to whichever club because he clearly still sees a player within the Englishmen.
