Tammy Abraham has stated that his loan spell at Aston Villa was ‘one of the most special’ moments of his career, as he told England’s official YouTube channel.
The AS Roma striker was on-loan at Villa during the 2018-19 season when they earned promotion from the Championship to the Premier League via the play-offs.
During that season, Abraham scored 26 goals in the colours of Claret and Blue by showcasing his intelligent and high-quality poaching skills inside the penalty area.
Abraham also scored the crucial penalty that won Villa their nail-biting semi-final shootout against West Brom at the Hawthorns.
Now, over in Italy and working under Jose Mourinho, this is what Abraham had to say about Villa, which fans will no doubt love.
“I feel that loan, for me, was probably one of the most special,” said Abraham.
“I enjoyed every time I have been out on loan. But, this one, really stuck with me.
“I think the whole story behind it. Me wanting to play in the Premier League. Me thinking about staying at Chelsea, then trying to go out when the transfer window closed. It was just all meant to be.
“Promotion feeling was just right up there in one of my best football moments. It was a hard, long season and for it all to pay off was nice.”
That loan spell at Villa for Abraham worked wonders for both because it earned the club promotion and push the striker’s status up a notch.
Straight after that season, Abraham returned to Chelsea and scored goals in the Premier League under Frank Lampard.
But last season, when Chelsea spent big, his game time was reduced and he ended up leaving his boyhood club for £34 million to Roma in the summer (BBC Sport).
The England striker, who was also recently part of the international set-up, alongside Ollie Watkins, is now hoping to guide the Italian giants into the Champions League.
