Roy Keane says he ‘can’t believe’ the transformation Luka Modric has made since leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid ten years ago.
The outspoken TV pundit stated that, when Modric left Spurs for the La Liga giants in 2012 for £30 million (BBC Sport), he thought ‘he has got a lot to do’.
And fast forward to the present, he thinks the one-time Ballon d’Or winner is now ‘one of the greats’ of the game having gone up ‘so many levels’.
Winning five European Cups is legendary and historic for a club, let alone an individual player winning those crowns.
But Modric, whose Croatia side were knocked out of the Qatar World Cup to Argentina on Tuesday, has those medals in his cabinet and Keane spoke highly of the player, as he told ITV Sport.
“Absolutely, (Modric is one of the greats),” said Keane. “What an amazing player.
“I watched him at Spurs, when he left Spurs, I thought he has got a lot to do this lad, to go to Madrid. He has gone up so many levels.
“I can’t believe it, honestly. It’s brilliant to see him. Consistency, week in and week out. International level. His calmness when he does get the ball. You would watch him all day.
“Again, he is one of those players that you would pay to go and watch. He’s fantastic.”

Even though Croatia, who reached the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, bowed out at the semi-final stage yesterday, their midfield genius in the middle still produced strong performances in the Middle East.
But that shouldn’t be a surprise because he has been singing and dancing like that in Real Madrid colours, including his stunning performances in the Champions League last season.
What’s crazy is that there is every chance he could add Champions League medal number six to his name with Carlo Ancelotti and Co. looking to defend their crown.
