Gary Lineker told Match of the Day that Tottenham-linked, Raheem Sterling, produced ‘one of the greatest performances’ he has seen by an Englishman at a major tournament last night.

England beat Denmark 2-1 in extra time to book their place in the final of Euro 2020, with Sterling winning the penalty that led to Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, scoring the crucial goal.

Sterling may not have got on the scoresheet but he was involved in both goals and was a constant energy-sapping threat to the opposition throughout.

Lineker would have seen many a great and abject performance by England players at major tournaments over the years, but he thinks Sterling’s was something special.

“A word on Raheem Sterling,” said Lineker. “I thought he was electric tonight.

“I think it’s one of the greatest performances I have seen by an English player at a major tournament.

“He just grasped at it and made it happen so often.”

It’s amazing to think that before the tournament started there was talk that Manchester City were offering Sterling to Tottenham in order to lure Kane to the Etihad.

Well, if England can beat Italy in the final on Sunday then he might just walk away with the Player of the Tournament.

And that’s some achievement for a player questioned before a ball was kicked at Euro 2020 this summer.

Plus, it might also result in Man City changing their minds if those Kane swap + money rumours were indeed true.
