Michael Owen has lauded Arsenal transfer target Kaoru Mitoma as a ‘top-class’ player after his stunning solo goal during Brighton’s 4-1 win at Wolves on Saturday.
The former striker thinks it’s ‘already one of the goals of the season’ despite the new Premier League campaign only being two weeks old.
Brighton have, once again, sold some of their best players this summer – Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister – but, as Owen rightfully pointed out, they have ‘managed to keep hold’ of Kaoru Mitoma, as he told Premier League Productions (19/08/23 at 5:10 pm).
But for how long? As the Europa League side have proven, if you put down an offer for their player, then they are open and willing to sell.
Arsenal know too well because they signed Ben White and Leandro Trossard from the Seagulls, but they failed to secure Moises Caicedo’s talents in January.
Well, the Premier League title contenders have expressed an interest in Mitoma, with the South Coast club setting a price on their player, as Owen shared his thoughts on his goal at Wolves.
“They lost two of their better players (Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo), but they managed to keep hold of this fella (Kaoru Mitoma),” said Owen.
“He is certainly top, top class. That’s already one of the goals of the season. By the end of the season, we will be looking at that and putting it up there.”
Mitoma is Champions League bound
Whether it’s Brighton or another club, Mitoma will be playing Champions League football sooner or later.
The piercing ball-carrying ability, ability to go both ways, create from the flanks and also score outrageous goals are qualities that need to be seen on the Champions League stage.
And whilst the likes of Arsenal express an interest in the Japan star, they will be fully aware that a big price tag will be put on his head.
