Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has been chatting about Liverpool and their interest in Luis Diaz from Porto.
Diaz was, interestingly, strongly linked with a move to Everton I the summer, but it seems as though he may end up plying his trade across Stanley Park.
Indeed, Castles says that the Reds are keen on Diaz, and they’re ready to move for him in January.
However, Porto aren’t willing to sell the player mid-season, so, barring an unbelievable offer, Jurgen Klopp may have to wait until the summer to bring him in.
What’s been said about Diaz?
Castles shared what he knows about Liverpool’s transfer plans.
“Liverpool have a budget and are targeting a top-level forward,” Castles said.
“They’re ready to do it in January if the right player becomes available in the January window but definitely will do something in the summer if they have to wait on a particular player.
“And a player who is one of the candidates is Luis Diaz at FC Porto.
“So they say they’ve had no direct contact from Liverpool at this stage, they’re aware that Liverpool have been in contact with the player.”

Needed in January
,It’s fair to say that the Reds could do with him coming into the club sooner rather than later.
With the African Cup of Nations on the horizon, Liverpool will soon find themselves short up top as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah get ready to jet off to Cameroon for the tournament.
Diaz would provide quality cover during that period, but it seems as though the Merseyside club may have to wait until the summer to sign him.
This is certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on.
