Wayne Rooney has spoken in awe to the Times of Tottenham duo Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son by labelling the former ‘one of the best in the world’.

The Premier League legend pointed out that he is ‘looking forward’ to Tottenham’s attacking engine, Son, linking up with Bale when he returns to full fitness.

After only one game, Tottenham’s season was looking bleak when they were beaten at home by Everton, but that all changed with Bale returning to North London.

Rooney pointed out how his arrival would have changed the mood in the dressing room, as he also bigged up Son’s qualities, but stated that the one ‘downside’ with him is that he took him out of his FPL squad.

“It’s amazing what a signing can do,” Rooney told the Times. “Without even being on the pitch Gareth Bale has provoked a reaction in Tottenham’s squad. Players are just like supporters — we get excited by transfers too.

“Seeing Bale, one of the best in the world, arrive will make Spurs’ players say, “I don’t want to lose my spot, I want to play with him.” With someone of that quality joining, who creates and scores goals, those Tottenham players will feel a sense of release.

“They’ll think, “We’re not only relying on Kane now,” and for Harry, it is perhaps his first real competition — because Bale can play No 9. Knowing Harry, he’ll thrive on it.

“One who I’m looking forward to seeing Bale link with is Son Heung-min. I think he’s a great player, who brings great energy and gets goals. I’m sure in South Korea they went crazy when he netted four times against Southampton: I played with Park Ji-sung and know what it was like over there whenever he scored. The only downside was I had Son in my Fantasy League team the week before — then took him out.”

On one of the most remarkable days in English football on Sunday, Spurs put six past Manchester United at Old Trafford, whilst the current champions were humiliated by Aston Villa when they conceded a staggering seven.

For Spurs, it was Son who was one of the stars of the show as the versatile attacker netted a brace and provided one assist during the game.

Even though he just returned from a hamstring injury, it was a typical Son display with his attacking motor running havoc all over the Old Trafford grass.

And to think Bale’s Welsh wizardry will be added to the mix then this could be a magical season for Jose Mourinho, who will be hoping to end Tottenham’s recent trophy drought.
