Wayne Rooney has said that he doesn’t want Liverpool to sign Thiago Alcantara, but admitted that it would be brilliant to see him in the Premier League.
Thiago to Anfield is shaping up as the transfer saga of the summer so far.
Bayern Munich have admitted that the 29-year-old is for sale but Liverpool are refusing to meet the £27 million valuation [Bild].
The Reds might be in the market for another midfielder after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was ruled out for two months and, with Gini Wijnaldum linked away, the Spaniard could be perfect.
Had things panned out differently, Rooney might have shared a Manchester United dressing room with Thiago once upon a time, and the former England international has written in his column for The Times that it’d be fantastic if he were to mix it with England’s elite.
Rooney wrote: “He’s one of the best midfielders around – I just hope he doesn’t go there! He can take the ball, be composed on it, keep things ticking over – and he’ll put his foot in. He’s an all-round midfielder, really, with a bit of everything.
“He backs up that Bayern press and he drops in between the centre halves to take the ball yet can also join in when they’re playing around the other box too. He’s a great player. It would be great to see him in the Premier League, actually.”
Even though Jurgen Klopp is a God among Liverpool fans right now, having masterminded a first-ever Premier League title success, some Reds fans will be furious if he doesn’t sign Thiago.
The Merseysiders have already missed out on one big target this summer in the form of Timo Werner, who joined Chelsea, and letting Thiago – who reportedly wants to join up with the German manager – slip through his fingers would represent even more disappointment on the transfer front.
