According to The Guardian, Liverpool have an eye on Mason Mount’s situation as Chelsea continue to struggle to get him to sign a new contract.
Liverpool’s midfield certainly needs a revamp, and Mount is exactly the type of player who could bring a new type of energy to Jurgen Klopp’s engine room.
The Chelsea ace has been lighting up the Premier League for a number of years at this point, and he’s earned all sorts of plaudits for his performances.
Indeed, Mount has won over many fans during his time at Chelsea, and interestingly, one man who is a big fan of Mount is Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard has gone on the record in the past to state how much he adores the England ace, labelling him as one of the best players in the country.
Gerrard loves Mount
The former Aston Villa boss spoke highly of Mount last December before his team faced Chelsea.
“I’ve watched his progress, of course I have. He’s a big talent for the country. I’m a massive fan of Mason,” he said, as relayed by the Express.
“He plays with a smile on his face. He can create, he can score and he’s already a European Cup winner so I don’t think he needs the likes of myself to big him up or praise him.
“But I must say I’m a fan.
“I think he’s only going to get better the more he plays and the more experience he gets.
“He’s already certainly one of the best players in the country. I have no doubts that he will be in the next squads for a lot of tournaments.”
Seal of approval
A glowing review from Gerrard should tell the Reds all they need to know about Mount.
The Liverpool legend was one of the very best midfielders of his generation, so if he thinks that Mount is something special, he’s probably right.
Of course, getting this young man out of Chelsea will be easier said than done, but if the Reds can pull this deal off, they would be getting a supremely talented footballer who could completely change this squad’s fortunes.
