Speaking on the ITV Football Show Podcast, Andros Townsend has been waxing-lyrical about West Ham’s Declan Rice.
The midfielder has been selected in the England squad for the upcoming European Championships, and Townsend believes he’s one of the best players in the country, naming him as one of the best players he’s ever played against.
What’s been said?
Townsend was analysing the England squad, and he was full of praise for Rice.
“Oh yeah, he’s very good going forward, but the defensive security he gives you in defence, anchoring that back four or the back five, whatever it will be. For me, he’s one of the best in the country for sure, and one of the best I’ve played against in the Premier League,” Townsend said.

Big praise
This is massive praise from a player like Townsend.
Townsend has played against some of the best players this league has ever seen in his long career, but he says Rice is up there with the very best of them.
At the age of just 22, Rice has a lot of room to grow and develop, and it’s actually quite frightening to think about how good he could be in a few years’ time.
Praise like this isn’t given out to many players, but that just goes to show what a talent Rice is.
Fingers crossed he can translate his performances to the international stage and lead England to glory this summer.
