Tottenham Hotspur-linked striker Andrea Belotti is one of the best number nines in the world, Torino’s Amer Gojak has told CalcioNews24.
Gojak has only been part of La Granata’s squad for a matter of weeks but it hasn’t taken Italy international Belotti long to make a big impression on his new teammate.
One of the most influential captains in European football, Belotti has scored goals for fun since joining Torino from Parma in 2015. However, this season is already shaping up to be his most prolific yet.
‘The Rooster’ has found the net five times in four matches already, although it remains to be seen if he can match his tally of 22 in 2019/20.
Either way, Tottenham will be watching the situation closely – particularly if Carlos Vinicius struggles to settle in the Premier League.
The Times reports Spurs are willing to spend £40 million on Belotti in 2021 – by which time Vinicius’s loan spell from Benfica will have ended. That is unless manager Jose Mourinho opts to sign the Brazilian on a permanent basis.
And you’d imagine Gojak will be cheering every goal Vinicius scores in Spurs colours.
After all, he won’t want to see Belotti take his lethal finishing skills elsewhere.
“He is one of the best in the world. He is our captain and he is an absolute champion,” says the Bosnia and Herzegovina-capped playmaker.
It had been suggested Torino would demand about £100 million for Belotti but, with his contract expiring in 2022, his price tag could fall considerably in the near future.
Especially with Calciomercato reporting talks over a new deal have stalled.
“I’d love to see Belotti stay at Torino for the rest of his career,” director Daniele Vagnati said earlier this month.
“He has values that are crucial for being the captain of Torino. We had a chat with Tottenham but Belotti is too important for us.”
