Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has told Sport Bible that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is up there as ‘one of the best’.
The Spurs striker was asked to pick a team of the best defenders he has played against.
And Kane backed Liverpool’s Van Dijk to compete with some of the best players from yesteryear.
“John Terry,” Kane said, when starting his dream back-line. ”I played against him for a couple of years and he’s just a really smart defender. Good positioning, used his body well, didn’t let you make runs across.”
“Sergio Ramos – very good, a complete player.
”I’ve also said Giorgio Chiellini [in the past], I played against Chiellini for Italy and Juventus. Then at the moment I think Virgil van Dijk is up there with one of the best as well.”
Kane is just another name to add to the ever growing list of admirers of Van Dijk.
The Dutchman’s reputation has shot up since he went to Liverpool and he is now widely regarded as the top central defender in world football.

Kane has actually got a credible scoring record against Liverpool, having found the net six times in 11 games against the Reds – although Van Dijk was not playing in all of those matches.
Tottenham are not due to meet Liverpool until December this season, so it could be a while before Kane comes face to face with the defender he admires so much again.
