Bruno Fernandes says Liverpool are ‘one of the best’ at hitting teams on the counter after Jurgen Klopp’s men recorded a remarkable 7-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
The Manchester United midfielder started the game, and even though Erik ten Hag’s men went into the break only 1-0 down, it was just pure disaster from there on in.
From Mo Salah to Cody Gakpo, the Reds ran rampant and probably inflicted the worst defeat in Manchester United’s history.
This was the heaviest-ever defeat for Man United against their arch enemies and it’s a game those on Merseyside will make sure they remember for decades to come.
What was the viewpoint of the players on the pitch? It’s obvious that the Liverpool players were on cloud nine, or in this case, seven.
But Fernandes made this instant claim, moments after the full-time whistle, as he told Premier League Productions (05/03/23 at 6:45 pm).
“I think, in the first half, we did really well,” said Fernandes. “We controlled the game. We had the most chances. Liverpool finds a goal.
“Then, we came into the second half and we concede too many goals from our mistakes and then positions from where we should be aware of what Liverpool wanted from the game. We did too many mistakes. That’s not our standard or level.
“We gave too much space for them to counter. We knew how they could in the counter-attack. It’s one of the best weapons that they have and we didn’t control that well enough.”

Only last week, Man United fans were talking about possibly winning the quadruple after their League Cup final win over Newcastle United at Wembley.
They then proceeded to secure a dramatic win over West Ham United in the FA Cup. Then there was talk of just taking it game-by-game and pushing for every trophy possible.
But this is a knockout blow that might just affect them in the coming weeks, and also send Liverpool to the confidence levels they probably haven’t felt since the days of their title-winning days.
