Writing in his column for The Athletic, Jesse Marsch has been discussing how he deals with certain teams ahead of the USA’s World Cup campaign.
Marsch was previewing the USA’s World Cup campaign, and he highlighted Wales’ ability to counter-attack as one of their main strengths.
With Wales having speedsters such as Dan James, Harry Wilson and Gareth Bale in their attack, Marsch warned that the US need to be wary of Rob Page’s side’s ability to counter, and he noted how he tries to deal with Liverpool.
Marsch says that he’ll often used his fastest and most disciplined player to mark the opposition speedsters such as Mohamed Salah, stating that he believes Tyler Adams is perfect for such a role due to how disciplined and focused the midfielder is.
Marsch hails Adams
The Leeds boss spoke about how Adams is the perfect player to stop counter attacks.
“When I’ve played Liverpool over the years, I’ve man-marked Mohamed Salah on our corner kicks. You get your fastest, most-disciplined players in those roles. You need guys that take pride in that. It’s one of the beauties of Tyler Adams. He takes pride in not allowing his defensive responsibilities to slip. And you need players that are committed to that — that are disciplined, focused, concentrated on exactly those strategies,” Marsch wrote.

Adams is a well-drilled workhorse, and Marsch knows exactly how to get the best out of the former RB Salzburg man.
Adams will be a key player for the USA, and Gregg Berhalter would do well to listen Marsch’s advice on how to use Adams in order to stop Wales’ strength on the break.
