Chambly defender Oumar Gonzalez feels English football is tailor-made for him after receiving an offer from Nottingham Forest, while speaking to Le Parisien.

With the Championship season edging ever closer to a return, Forest are potentially just a matter of weeks away from securing a return to the promised land after 20 years outside of the Premier League.

Sabri Lamouchi has thrived where so many before him failed, transforming the two-time European champions into genuine promotion contenders with a squad far greater than the sum of its parts.

But, while the former Rennes boss deserves much of the credit, the work done behind the scenes by the recruitment department should not be overlooked. The deals to bring Brice Samba, Samba Sow and Thiago Silva to the City Ground were nothing short of inspired.

And it seems that Nottingham Forest have another under-the-radar talent in their sights – a Cameroonian centre-back who is plying his trade in the French second tier.

“When you are a professional footballer you do not know what tomorrow is made of,” says Oumar Gonzalez, a 6ft 1ins powerhouse who prides himself upon his physicality and strength in the challenge.

“It is true that England is a championship that I really appreciate. It’s a suited to my style. It’s one of my dreams to play there.”

Nottingham Forest are reported to have made an offer of over £1 million for a man who has represented Cameroon at U23 level. And, with veteran skipper Michael Dawson due to turn 37 before the end of the year, Forest’s interest in Gonzalez may be re-ignited sooner rather than later.
